| Summary | The India CTC3 Refresher course was organized by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the Lien Collaborative for Palliative Care and the APHN. This marked the completion of training the 3rd batch of Master trainer program in India. |
The India CTC3 Refresher Course took place in the Lemon Tree Hotel, Delhi. The training was supported by 9 faculty members, 1 program director (Mr Giam Cheong Leong) and 1 administration staff (Ms Sarita Kumari). The faculty were namely, A/Prof Cynthia Goh (Singapore), Dr Sushma Bhatnagar (Delhi), Dr Naveen Salins (Manipal), Dr Seema Rao (Manipal), Dr Anjum Joad (Jaipur), Dr Priyadarshini Kulknarni (Pune), Dr Savita Butola (Delhi), Dr Roopesh Jain (Bhopal) and Ms Nileema(Delhi).
The faculty met up on 2nd Oct evening to provide progress updates on the mentoring they had done, feedback on the schedule planned and readiness of each palliative care service setup at the cancer treatment centres. We were greeted with very positive observations and had begun to pen down what needed to be done for the CTC4 programme next year.
11 cancer treatment centres participated in the Refresher training despite telecommunication issues and air traffic suspension concerns in Jammu and Srinagar. It was extremely encouraging to witness the progress and achievement by each of the centres, all of which had setup the palliative care services in their respective locations.
All 41 participants had a chance to share their experience, learning and plans in this round of training through the sharing of their complex cases and progress of each of their centres. Guided by their mentors and senior faculty, each centre had the opportunity to conduct a micro-lecture to the rest of the group. The sessions were very impressive and were a testimony to the great work and progress of the palliative services setup by the cancer centres.
The 3-day Refresher Course Training schedule had been planned by A/Prof Goh, Dr Bhatnagar, Dr Salins and Dr Rao. (See Appendix 1). The 3 days of training saw plenty of cross-sharing and exchange of knowledge about cases that the team had experienced. The excitement escalated to a high point when each team announced their planned event for World Hospice Palliative Care Day (WHPCD) in Oct 2019 and extended their invite to the participants.
Overall, the CTC3 Refresher Course was a great success and the objectives had been met. The mentors will continue to handhold some centres as well as continue with the mentor visit in December 2019. The centres are mainly AIIMS, Bhopal; Govt Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu; RNT Medical College, Udaipur and Government Medical College, Srinagar.
