Celebrating 21 years of APHN

The Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network is 21 years old today. We have come a long way since our founding in 2001. Our work in education, training and capacity building has been the hallmark of our success over the past two decades and has made a difference in many of our sectors. The work of APHN is dependent on linking individuals and services across the region, helping each other. The vision of our pioneers and leaders has provided guidance for both the past and next generation of palliative care workers to make a difference to our community in facing both current and future challenges.

The recent paper on Cross Country Comparison of Expert Assessments in Quality of Death and Dying 2021 (Finkelstein et al, JPSM 2021) has shown the tremendous improvements made by some of the sectors in our region, whilst others still face some challenges.

The world has changed through the experience of the Covid-19 pandemic and there are consistent calls for improved palliative care to be integrated into public health systems by the World Health Organisation.

APHN will continue to work with you and others to make the vision of improving access to hospice and palliative care to all that need it a reality in our region. Please join us and be part of this network and assist in our activities in education, training, research and advocacy.
