Come join us for our first session of our 2025 Webinar Series! This time our topic will be on ‘Geriatrics and Palliative Care for older people’ held on 5 March 2024, 2:30-3:30 pm (Singapore time). It will be a live 1 hour session on Zoom with a Q&A segment at the end with the speaker.
For this session, we are honoured to have Prof David Currow from the University of Wollongong, Australia as our speaker.
Synopsis
Meeting the needs of people with a life-limiting illness requires a multi-disciplinary approach to care. Older people are likely to have additional needs that require special consideration. This includes: chronic symptoms and active co-morbidities; the risk of frailty being accelerated; and multiple long-term medications that are mostly unrelated to their life-limiting illness. The role of caregivers, if this is a spouse, will also need special consideration.
Speaker Bio
Professor David Currow is a physician by training and a widely published academic with research in reducing the burdens of cancers, symptom control and their population prevalence and impacts, and health services research. He was a Matthew Flinders Distinguished Professor at Flinders University and Professor of Palliative Medicine at University of Technology Sydney.
Prof Currow was previously NSW Chief Cancer Officer; Chief Executive Officer of the Cancer Institute NSW; and foundation Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Australia.
He was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences in 2015 and Fellow of the Royal Society of NSW in 2024.
