This session will introduce the current situation of Paediatric Palliative Care (PPC) in Southern China, especially in the Guangdong Province. We will be exploring what is the model of PPC like in the tertiary children’s hospital in Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center together with the problems and challenges that were encountered. The session will conclude by examining the appropriate patterns of PPC for Southern China and the aspirations for improved patient care.
Dr Feiyan Chan (Kelly) is a Paediatric Intensivist of the PICU in Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center (GZWCMC). She is the Director for the GZWCMC’s Paediatric Palliative Care Team and also the Director and Founder of the Guangzhou Paediatric Palliative Care medical associations.
As a specialist in the PICU for many years, Dr Chen is deeply aware of the challenges faced by children with critical illnesses. After observing and learning from the PPC team in the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, she founded the Paediatric Palliative Care Team in Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center in May 2024. Based on the cultural background and medical needs in China, Dr Chen is still exploring the most suitable mode of PPC in the tertiary children’s hospital. She hopes to hear and learn from colleagues in the region during Q&A for suggestions.
