Speaker Bio
Prof Irene Higginson
Professor Higginson is Professor of Palliative Care and Policy at the Cicely Saunders Institute, King’s College London, where she also directs the Better Health and Care Hub. A clinical academic trained in both Public Health and Palliative Medicine, she leads major research programmes, including the EU-funded BETTER-B project on breathlessness. Her work spans outcome measurement, treatment evaluation, and health services research. She holds honorary consultant roles at several London NHS trusts and serves as Chair of the NIHR’s Health and Social Care Delivery Research Programme Funding Committee. She is also Scientific Director of Cicely Saunders International and an NIHR Senior Investigator (Emeritus).
Dr Mevhibe B. Hocaoglu
Dr Mevhibe B. Hocaoglu is a postdoctoral researcher at the Cicely Saunders Institute, King’s College London, working within the NIHR South London Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) Patient-Centred Outcomes programme. A former Fulbright Scholar at Harvard Medical School, she is part of the Patient Outcomes Committee at King’s College Hospital and the Palliative Outcome Scale (POS) team. Her work focuses on the development, co-design, and implementation of Clinical Outcome Assessments (COAs) to support inclusive, person-centred care for people living with multimorbidity and complex conditions, ensuring research translates into meaningful improvements in policy, practice, and service delivery.
