Dr Sharon Choo is currently leading the palliative care unit in Sarawak General Hospital and is a member of the APHN Council.
What do you consider your greatest professional achievement so far?
One of my notable accomplishments is the development and implementation of the Domiciliary Palliative Care Program in Sarawak via collaborative efforts with Sarawak State Health Department, local NGO hospices and APHN. This initiative has enabled palliative care patients to be transitioned seamlessly to the community to receive care in the comfort of their own homes.
What motivates you to keep pushing forward, even on tough days?
It is the profound impact of the work that I am doing and the meaningful challenges encountered when caring for patients, that is very fulfilling. I reflect on people I encountered and that serves as a powerful reminder of why I chose this path.
If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Haha.. this is really hard. I don’t think I can pin down to taking only one type of meal for the rest of my life… I like a diverse meal. However, if there is really no choice, then I would say it would be “zhap fan” – rice with 3 side dishes (杂饭).
