Mr Kwan Kam Fan is currently an Associate Project Director at The University of Hong Kong and is serving as APHN’s Honorary Treasurer.
What previous experience do you bring to the council that you think will be particularly beneficial?
It has been an immense privilege to collaborate with and learn from a remarkable group of healthcare professionals and scholars within the APHN Council. Their expertise and experience have been invaluable, shaping my own journey in this field. Amidst their overwhelming schedules, I’ve been fortunate to fill a niche—addressing matters that others may not have the bandwidth to handle.
My career in Hong Kong has centered around non-profit organizations dedicated to promoting hospice palliative care, cancer support, and mental health awareness. My responsibilities span organizational development, financial management, administration, operations, communications, and public education.
Reflecting on my decade of service to APHN, I believe my background in finance, administration, and organizational development has particularly contributed to APHN’s growth and effectiveness.
If you could instantly become an expert in anything, what would it be?
If bestowed with the ability to instantly master any skill, I would choose to become an entrepreneur—one who transforms social welfare concepts into robust ‘business models.’ These models hold the promise of creating services or products that can effectively, efficiently, and sustainably address pressing social issues while being generally accepted by a wide spectrum of stakeholders. The ultimate goal is to witness the dissolution of social welfare issues, rendering those services or products obsolete and no longer necessary
What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of work?
As someone actively involved in promoting physical and mental well-being, I recognize that regular exercise is a cornerstone of good health. Therefore, among the many hobbies I have, I prioritize consistent and enduring participation in sports that I enjoy most. Specifically, I engage in hiking and practicing Chinese martial arts at least once a week for each of them. Additionally, I enjoy reading and am always eager to explore diverse topics and stay attuned to our ever-evolving world.
