We are honoured to have Dr Sayaka Takenouchi (Japan) speaking on the topic of Conversations that Value What Matters to Patients with Serious Illnesses- A Nursing Perspective! You will be able to ask Dr Takenouchi any questions you may have at the end of the session.

Sayaka Takenouchi, Ph.D., R.N., M.P.H., is an associate professor at the Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine Department of Fundamental Nursing in Kyoto, Japan.  Dr. Takenouchi is a nurse educator and researcher with expertise in nursing ethics and palliative/end-of-life care. After acquiring her nursing licenses in both Japan and the United States, she gained experience as a hospice/palliative care nurse in the United States and was determined to bring back the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) curriculum to her country. Dr. Takenouchi was the first international ELNEC trainer to begin translating ELNEC. Supported by a strong project team, she has devoted herself to translate the ELNEC-Core, Geriatric, Critical Care, and Pediatric Palliative Care curricula and to educate Japanese nurses since 2004. Her passion is to empower nurses to be patient advocates through patient-centered approaches, framed by assessing and honoring patient’s needs, values, and preferences.
