In celebration of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2026, the Section of Hospice and Palliative Care of Ospital ng Makati will hold a week-long series of activities under the local campaign title “Pagbigay MalaS.A.K.I.T. – Suriin, Alamin, Kalingain, Ibsan, Tugunan.”
Aligned with this year’s theme, “Pain Management: An Essential Part of Palliative Care,” the activities aim to promote better understanding of pain and its physical, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions, while encouraging compassionate and holistic approaches to care.
From October 12–16, 2026, short lay fora will be conducted at the Ambulatory Care Medicine area to engage patients, families, and members of the community through accessible discussions on pain, common misconceptions about pain management, and the role of palliative care in improving quality of life.
The week will also feature a Basic Pain Management Workshop on October 12, 2026, aimed at strengthening knowledge and awareness of appropriate pain assessment and management among healthcare providers.
Through education, dialogue, and community participation, the initiative hopes to reinforce the message that pain should be recognized, understood, and appropriately addressed, and that palliative care has an important role throughout the course of serious illness.

Run & Ride for Dignity 2026 is a coastal endurance and public awareness rally taking place across Karnataka's Konkan corridor on the occasion of World Hospice & Palliative Care Day. Designed as a non-competitive, high-visibility awareness drive, the event brings together cyclists and runners to advocate for dignified, accessible end-of-life care and compassionate symptom management. The journey is structured not merely to cover distance, but to carry a regional public message directly along primary transit corridors: celebrating life, breaking taboos around hospice care, and highlighting the vital necessity of comfort and dignity for patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses.

Start Point: Corporation Circle, near Lalbagh, Mangalore
End Point: Manipal Hospice and Respite Centre, Manipal
Route Corridor: An approximately 65 km inter-district course along National Highway 66 (NH 66), connecting coastal hubs via Mangalore --> Surathkal --> Padubidri -->Udupi --> Manipal.
Cause & Advocacy Focus: Aligned with global observances for World Hospice & Palliative Care Day, the rally serves as an active community engagement platform to:
- Raise grassroots literacy on hospice services and the philosophy of palliative care
- Foster solidarity among youth, active-living communities, and healthcare advocates
- Normalize compassionate conversation around end-of-life support and equitable palliative access.

In celebration of World Hospice Day 2026, the National Hospice and Palliative Care Council of the Philippines presents "Bayanihan sa Ginhawa: Carrying the Burden of Pain Together." The term Bayanihan refers to the deeply rooted Filipino spirit of communal unity, cooperation, and working together to achieve a shared goal—traditionally visualized as neighbors helping a family relocate their entire house. Linked here with ginhawa(relief, ease, or well-being), the title reflects a collective approach to easing suffering.
This multidisciplinary webinar explores comprehensive palliative and pain management through a distinctly Filipino lens, combining traditional community values with clinical expertise. Sessions will cover critical topics ranging from dispelling opioid myths in homes and hospitals and building whole-of-community care networks, to equipping families and barangay health workers with home-care skills. The program also addresses the profound dimensions of healing by examining spiritual pain and the implications of social pain in patient care. Designed for healthcare professionals, palliative care advocates, and community caregivers, this event aims to strengthen our collective village of support for patients and families.

The Department of Palliative Medicine, Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute has organized a "Community Awareness on Palliative Care" programme for community members on 10 October 2026 in village Barmura, Rangia in association with Pragjyoti Sangha, Barmura (Khanapara), Rangia on the occasion of WHPCD 2026. The programme is aimed at encouraging the villagers of the Barmura, Rangia area to take up volunteerism for helping cancer patients in their locality.
In addition, encouraged by the success of the "Model Village of Palliative Care, Mayong," the Department is going to extend the programme by establishing a new "Model Village of Palliative Care" at Barmura (Khanapara), Rangia. The community group Pragjyoti Sangha has come forward to execute the project in and around Rangia. The project is proposed to be launched on the same day, in conjunction with the WHPCD 2026 celebration.

This year’s theme re-emphasises that in palliative and hospice care, pain management is not merely symptom control, but a core component of holistic care. For patients with serious illness, suffering rarely stems from a single source; instead, it manifests as **Total Pain**, an interwoven experience across physical, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions. Effective pain management therefore must adopt the perspective of whole-person assessment and integrated care. Only by understanding and addressing the multifaceted suffering of patients and their families throughout the illness journey can we truly uphold their quality of life and dignity.
This year in Macau, the Palliative and Hospice Care Day Conference is jointly organised by Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau and Kiang Wu Hospital. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the two institutions have hosted this event together.
