In memory of Dr Nell Muirden (1932 – 2013)

Nell_MuirdenDr Nell Muirden, a longtime friend of APHN, died in Melbourne on 9 June 2013 after a short illness.

Nell was one of the pioneers of palliative care in Melbourne.  The work of Albert Schweitzer in Lambaréné had inspired Nell to study medicine so she could be a medical missionary.  After graduating from the University of Sydney in 1955 and, spending a year at Kurri Kurri Hospital in rural New South Wales, she set off for the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu), where she was Acting Medical Superintendent for two years at the Mission Hospital in Vila…read more
