The Palliative Care Team of the Teaching Hospital, Karapitiya (THK) is happy to announce that His Excellency President Maithripala Sirisena has approved the release of LKR 10 million from the President’s Fund for our Project to set up the palliative care centre. As mentioned in the President’s letter dated September 9th informing us of the donation, this is the first tranche of a total donation of LKR 20 million from the President’s Fund. The second tranche will be released once the first tranche is spent satisfactorily and accounts are submitted. We, the Palliative Care Team of THK, take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to H.E. the President for acceding to our request and approving this generous donation, which is in keeping with his long-term and sincere commitment to improving and expanding healthcare facilities to the country’s people, particularly those who rely solely on state-funded healthcare services.

We take this opportunity to thank Mr. Udaya Seneviratne, Secretary to the President, for the valuable role he played in facilitating the donation. We express our appreciation of the Officials of the President’s Fund who worked hard to ensure the timely release of the donation. Mr. Gamini Jayasinghe and Mr. Senaka de Silva played major roles in coordinating the request from the Palliative Care Team and ensuring that it reached the attention of the officials of the President’s Fund. We salute your dedication and your valuable and continued support to make this noble effort a reality.

Here are some pictures to showcase the Palliative care Centre in the final stage of construction. The Opening for the centre has been planned on 18th March 2020.
