16 March, 2022 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

We are back with our Quarterly Webinar Series for 2022!

Our first session of the year will be on ‘ACP is a Journey not a Destination, How do we travel well?’ held on 16 March 2022, 2.30-3.30 pm (Singapore time)! It will be a live one-hour session with a Q&A segment at the end with the speaker.

Everyone agrees that Advance Care Planning (ACP) is a good thing, yet studies have not shown that it significantly affects healthcare utilisation, nor even the type of end-of-life care patients receive. Recent articles with titles like “What’s Wrong With Advance Care Planning?” (Sean Morrison et al JAMA 2021) have stirred up more controversy. Where are we after decades of hard work, advocacy, and research?

This talk will explore the current landscape of ACP, how the healthcare system views ACP versus how people actually make decisions and suggest how we should be rethinking our own approach. Maybe what is “wrong” with ACP is the emphasis – too much emphasis on the “product” (the document) and not enough effort on the “process” (communication).

We are honoured to have Dr Noreen Chan as our guest speaker! Dr Chan is a Senior Consultant in Palliative Medicine, ACP Lead at the National University Hospital and member of the National ACP Steering Committee. She is also the Undergraduate Medical Education Director for Palliative Medicine at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and Chair of the Palliative Medicine Subspecialty Training Committee.
